Copying Classes

Did you know you can also copy an entire class?

Teaching multiple sections of one subject this term? Or, perhaps you’re staying with your students as they move ahead to a new year. You can copy a current Showbie class to keep all your settings in place, without having to start your class set-up from scratch. The flexible process of copying a class is the same on both the iPad and the web app.

When you copy a class, all assignments and their shared folders will be copied except the due dates, which won’t be copied – allowing you to start fresh. A new class code will be generated so that new students can join the new, duplicated class. You can even lock all of the imported assignments and unlock them when you’re ready for your students to start working on them.

Note: if you have a Socrative quiz in the assignment, this will not be copied over. You’ll need to launch them again in the copied class.

Showbie is Hard at Work

Depending on your internet speed and the number of files you’re copying over, Showbie may take a little additional time to process and copy your class. Thanks for your patience!

QR codes

Once students have created their accounts, teachers can share a QR code to help make logging-in quick and flexible – no lost passwords! Teachers can view, enable, disable, or refresh a student’s QR code with the following steps:

  1. Search for the student’s name.
  2. Tap on their Profile Icon.
  3. A menu will pop up for the student’s profile. This is where teachers can find their username and email*, as well as QR code options.
  4. Select ‘QR Code’ from the list.
  5. Here, teachers will have the option to enable/disable the QR code, download the QR code, or refresh the code.

Bonus tip: Batch download and print your classes’ QR codes for easy log in. Some students keep them safe in their agenda or lockers for easy access. Remember that QR codes should be protected the same as a username and password, and as such, should not be shared publicly.

*Note that students’ emails are not required to use the platform, only a username.

With these teacher-approved tips you can prepare your work in batches, removing redundancy from your class setup and workflow! We hope these key tips will help you get settled quickly, and feel prepared to engage with your students – no matter what the coming year has in-store.
