Showbie was founded in 2012 with a simple but powerful goal: to make teaching and learning more effective and engaging.

What began as a tool to simplify classroom workflows has evolved into a complete teaching and learning platform used by schools and districts around the world. Today, we partner with educators and education leaders to deliver personalized learning at scale, powered by research-based practice and a deep belief in the unique potential of every learner.

At Showbie, we believe that success looks different for every learner and that education should adapt to meet each individual's strengths, needs, and aspirations. We are committed to creating equitable, tailored learning experiences that recognize and celebrate the diverse ways humans can contribute to and succeed in the world.

We also know that personalization alone isn't enough — impactful learning needs to be powered by pedagogy. That’s why Showbie is designed to support research-based practices that deliver real, measurable learning outcomes. By empowering educators to strengthen direct instruction, feedback, assessment, and independent practice, we help create learning environments where every student can thrive.

The Founders Behind the Platform

Before Showbie, Colin and Roy spent years building custom software for both companies and schools. Inspired by educators and the rise of mobile technology, they set out to create a product that could make a lasting impact on classrooms everywhere.

For Colin, the mission was personal. He’d experienced how powerful learning could be when teachers gave him individual attention, so he built a platform to help every teacher offer that kind of individual support, at scale.

Showbie is Founded

Showbie is founded in Edmonton, Canada, by Colin and Roy, with a vision to improve and simplify classroom workflows.

2013
Imagine K12 Accelerator and App Launch

Showbie joins the Imagine K12 Edtech accelerator and formally launches the Showbie app.

2014
Seed Investment

Led by Point Nine Capital, this funding helps Showbie grow from a simple file-sharing app into a platform supporting teachers around the world.

2018
Socrative Acquisition

Showbie acquires Socrative, a powerful student response and assessment tool—bringing together two educator-loved tools to better support feedback and assessment.

2021
Series A Funding

Led by Rhino Ventures, Showbie secures growth funding to accelerate product development, scale the team, and expand global impact.
